The Research Lab
Costas has been researching innovative companies for the last eight years. The cornerstone of his research method is the selection of leading innovative companies both in the US and the UK (based on the total number of awards, the patents granted, turnover, etc.) and the thorough approach towards analyzing and synthesizing data. His latest research involved seven leading innovative organizations in the US in order to identify common principles but also to investigate differences among them. He considers himself a student of enduring innovative companies. He is always intrigued by the challenges that these companies face while they grow and the ways through which they maintain a leading presence in their respective fields.
The exploratory nature of his research projects has given him the opportunity to identify several interesting principles that directly affect the management of creative and innovative processes. The major challenge has been to turn hundreds of interviews into useful concepts. This is a process that requires tremendous attention and substantial investment in time since it mainly demands the researcher to go back and forth between data. This iterative process allows the development and testing of ideas. It is a rigorous process that must be repeated for several times until the most prominent ideas are built into a coherent framework, model or theory.
